There are three main types of people whom are involved in BDSM. There are those who believe that BDSM is only a sexual activity with little depth to it. There are those who believe that the BDSM lifestyle should be used for the purpose of money, regardless of what others believe concerning it. Finally, the third type of person is the one who believes that there is a whole set of ideals within the BDSM lifestlye, a whole community of discussion beyond the activities.
So often we run into people who fall into the the categories of the sex freak or the capitalist. It is a shame to think that there are those who believe so much more than just what is presented on many videos, magazines, stories, and websites. Why is it a shame? It is a shame because these are the true BDSM enthusiasts, they are the ones who support the lifestyle; but they are also the ones who are often overlooked and misunderstood.
We do not misunderstand the capitalist one bit. Certainly, the capitalist may fall within the other two categories. And in reality, a good many models and web hosts are divided among the various categories. But there are those who take no pleasure from BDSM, except in the process of making money from it. Just as there are those who take no pleasure from BDSM unless there is sex involved. It is not unreasonable or unbelievable for people to move from one category to another, expecially as they gain more experience and wisdom, or as they become more and more jaded.
People do become jaded, callous in their beliefs and actions concerning many many different subjects. Within the realm of BDSM people may become disenchanted with certain sitautions or discussions because of their seeming familiarity. But, everyone holds an opinion on the subject, and the opinions will most often vary to at leasts ome extent. It is difficult to not become callous, to not overlook erroneous information concerning BDSM.
Times change, and the issues and beliefs concerning BDSM change as well. What one person believes today may be different tommorrow. What is acceptable in one group now may not be in a month. But respect should be given to the former beliefs, as someone probably still adheres to them in some fashion.
The beliefs that someone holds concerning BDSM, whether communal, capitalist, or sexual; they should not prevent them from teaching or informing those who have questions. Everyone was at one point a rookie, a novice in the world of BDSM. Should we not take those who are young, misinformed or uninformed, and guide them?
