Condemnation of the word Condone

Condemnation is not the equivalent of condoning something. For to condone is to ignore, and ignore is to deny the existence of or to pretend that something does not exist. These are not interchangeable words, with meanings that are far from similar. The similarity between such words is the sounds of their pronunciation.

Condemn the action if it is wrong, evil, immoral, or such. Do not condone that which is wrong, evil, immoral, or such. To condemn is to declare the wrongs of, whereas to condone is to overlook or forgive that which is done. Care must be taken in the use of such words, for the meaning of a statement can be very greatly altered by the mere use of the inappropriate word. Do not condone murder, but condemn murder. Do not condemn the good Samaritan, but condone his actions of righteousness.

When surfing the internet for sights related to BDSM, watch for the common mistake of mixing the words condemn and condone. The Twitchy Web Center condemns acts of violence and abuse against all people, and in no way condones these actions. Trust, honor, and safety are the foundations of much of that which the Twitchy Web Center represents.
